What happens if I'm stopped by the police?

The police have an important job of keeping you and everyone safe. They work with people in your neighbourhood to make sure everyone follows the rules and feels secure.

The law gives the police powers to help them solve crime and stop it from happening. But they have to make sure that they use these powers fairly, only when necessary, and in the right way.

The police standards in this section explain how you should be treated if you come into contact with the police.
